JESUS IS THE WAY, STILL!
I am so glad to be back with you. Seasons go on and life continues whether we are on board or not. Sally and I have been the most blessed of people even with all that is going on. It is easy to complain and I have to admit, I am guilty of whining from time to time. Isn't it great that His Grace is bigger than any situation or attitude any of us can take on.
Way back in 1988 I came to know Jesus as my Savior. December 8, 1988, to be exact. And it came about when a much younger Miss Sally was working in the detox where I had come for help. I was sitting in her office when she invited me to read a scripture from the Bible that she kept with her. They sure didn't allow a Bible on the property knowingly; it's just that she always had it with her no matter where she was. Anyhow, she asked me to read John 14:6. When I did, I read it aloud and something happened that had never happened to me before. As I read, "Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father but through me.", tears started to form in my eyes and then a flood, and it was like a dam had broken and then I was crying like a baby. Sally told me that I cried for a long time. I don't have any recollection of time, but I remember like it was last night what happened while I was crying. The presence of God came over me, filled that little office with His Glory and my life was changed forever. I remember telling Sally over and over," I'm coming home, I'm coming home. Jesus, if there is anything You can do for me, please help me." I felt His touch over my side by my heart and I also heard His voice say very softly to me, "brother".
I share this little part of my testimony with you because it was the verse of scripture that pierced my heart. The WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE is such a simple phrase but it says more than I could say in this small space. So I'm going to just talk briefly about one aspect. The way.
From the time in your life when you took your first breath you entered the way of life. As an infant and child you didn't have much say in the way you were taken but as you got older you had more say in what you did or where you went. if you are like most of us, you came to the place where you were sure you knew exactly what you ought to be doing and what kind of life you should live. by the same token, if you are as blessed as we are, you discovered that it was Jesus Christ who is truly the author and finisher of your faith, that He and He alone has all the right answers.
In one way or another we all have struggles with finding out that we don't have to do it alone. There really is a friend who sticks closer than a brother who is willing to stand beside you through thick and thin. There is a workable balance between the Spiritual life of Christianity and the practical life of existing and surviving in this world. You will never get it perfect and that's a real good thing, believe me. Not even close to perfect.
Every person can find the direction of their life and the purpose that God has intended for them. Sadly, we all know those who struggle and never seem to find their place in this world, and without exception, every one of those that we know is that person who has not or will not submit their life to Christ. Jesus is the one who said, "You must be born again", not some wise person or philosopher. That is the beginning. So, you might ask, what about all the people who are lost but still they have been successful and appear to have it all together. What I have to say about that is that there is always, again, without exception, an empty place, a void, that they struggle with every day of their life
It would be so wonderful if being saved would guarantee that you would always be happy, successful, and healthy. There is no such guarantee to anyone in this life. Rich people, poor people, healthy people, or sick people, lost people, saved people, we all must realize that we are living in a fallen, imperfect world. It is our lot in life to develop the faith and assurance that eye hasn't seen, nor ear heard, and the heart can't discern what riches are laid up in heaven for them that love Him. (God)
There is a satisfaction that can't be bought or contrived in any way found in knowing and being known by Jesus gives you that you won't find anywhere else. I hope this will be in some way useful or comforting to you. He really is the way.
Another time I will talk about truth and life. Know this though, that when we find the way to go, the truth of the world, we will have a life worth living!
